The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) make it clear that whilst there exists no legal definition of who constitutes an expert (CPS, 2018) they acknowledge that an expert is:

“a person whose evidence is intended to be tendered before a court, and who has relevant skill or knowledge achieved through research, experience, or professional application within a specific field, sufficient to entitle them to give evidence of their opinion and upon which the court may require independent, impartial assistance”.

At Investigation and Research Consultancy, we are able to provide expert witness duties to cases involving the forensic interviewing of adult victims, witnesses and suspects (with or without vulnerabilities), the impact of their vulnerability on their ability to provide their account, false confessions and potential miscarriages of justice. Our Chartered Psychologist is registered with the British Psychological Society and is listed on their Directory of Expert Witnesses. They are able to provide courts, tribunals or hearings with the relevant scientific, technical, and professional opinion based on their skills, experience, expertise and knowledge beyond what is likely to be the experiences and knowledge of the court.

Our Services

Forensic Interviewing

Our Expert Witness can provide insight into the quality of the interview conducted with any adult victim, witness or suspect and the impact that questioning styles may have had on their recall.

Vulnerability

The impact of vulnerability on the account of the interviewee can be examined by our Expert Witness, including whether the necessary safeguards were implemented appropriately.

false confessions

The likelihood of false confessions is heightened in vulnerable individuals, especially if they are not interviewed in the most appropriate manner. Our Expert Witness can provide expert opinion on this and the potential for a miscarriage of justice.
